Spondylosis (Osteoarthritis of spine)
Spine is made up of 33 individual structures stacked upon one another. According to the region which corresponds, they are divided into sacral, lumbar, thoracic and cervical, from bottom upwards. Lots of small and large muscle, ligaments and fascia attached to them facilitate movement.
In between the vertebrae are the discs which provide inter-vertebral space to facilitate movement and rotation of each unit, giving inter-vertebral pressure and shape of vertebra with its convex and concave curves. This is composed of central nucleus pulposa and outer annulus. The annulus is made of thousands of inter-connecting fibres attached to the vertebra at 60 degrees, making it a water-tight compartment. The fluid imbibed in it gives the pressure.
The fibers can degenerate, slip from attachment, herniate or tear. All these produce symptoms according to the organ it gives pressure. If it is the muscles, it leads to muscular spasm and pain; if the tendons, pain along the tendons; and in the case of nerves, pain along the distribution of nerves. Severe pain associated with the compression of nerve to legs, is called sciatica and that to the hand is referred to as brachialgia.
Cervical Spondylosis and lumbar spondylosis are degenerative conditions affecting the vertebrae of the neck and back respectively. Pain may be experienced in the neck or back and may radiate to upper arm, back and the posterior side of the head or to the legs according to site. Collar, belts, analgesics and physiotherapy are usually advised for this by modern medicine.
The aim of the treatment is to control inflammation, restore circulation and to alleviate degeneration. Outpatient treatment is effective for mild and moderate cases with Ayurveda. Total relief of pain can be assured within one week.
In severe cases, in-patient treatment for 2-3 weeks is needed. Usually panchakarma process including vasti (enema), nasya (nasal medication) and virechana (purgation) are advised. Internal medications and external therapies are chosen according to the condition.
Through years of experience, Vedagram has developed medicines and treatment protocols to counter them. With the aid of these protocols, even severe back pain can be cured within weeks. This makes Vedagram the best in the management of Cervical spondylosis and Lumbar spondylosis.
