Gouty Arthritis
Gouty Arthritis
Gout is a form of systemic vata-rakta-type inflammatory arthritis. It develops in some people with high levels of uric acid in the blood. The acid can form needle-like crystals in a joint and cause sudden, severe episodes of pain, tenderness, redness, warmth and swelling. High cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease may raise the risk. Red meat and shellfish also increases the risk.
