TREATMENT FOR VARICOSE VEIN
Do you experience discomfort in your leg veins? Or have you noticed change in their colour? Then you should seek medical attention right away. It's possible that you have varicose veins.
What is a varicose vein?
Varicose veins are classified as type 2 venous insufficiency, which impairs the normal functioning of the veins. Although varicose veins can occur in any part of the body, they are most commonly observed in the leg veins.
What causes varicose veins?
Arteries transport blood from the heart to other parts of the body, whereas veins facilitate the return of blood from body tissues to the heart, promoting proper blood circulation. Veins in the leg have to work against gravity to transport blood to the heart. One-way valves in the veins prevent the backward flow of blood. If these valves become damaged or weakened, blood can flow backwards, causing blood to pool in the veins, resulting in the veins stretching, swelling or twisting.
If left untreated, varicose veins in the leg can worsen and lead to a more severe condition called varicose ulcer, which can cause the formation of wounds in the leg. It is important to seek medical attention promptly if you suspect you have varicose vein
Symptoms of varicose veins:
Have you ever observed veins in your leg that have a bluish or purple hue? This is among the initial indications of varicose veins. There are additional significant symptoms to watch out for, including twisted, cord-like, and bulging veins in the legs that display a dark blue or purple color. Individuals may also experience pain or a heavy sensation in the legs, along with swelling in the lower legs and throbbing discomfort. Prolonged standing or sitting can worsen the pain, and itching and skin discoloration are also possible symptoms.
Treatment for Varicose Vein
According to Ayurveda, varicose veins are referred to as "Siraja Granthi," where "Siraja" means the veins and tubular structures that transport blood, and "Granthi" denotes a cyst-like protrusion. The condition is believed to be caused by a tridoshic imbalance, resulting from increased pitta dosha around the blood vessels and impaired Kapha and Vata dosha in the bulging area, leading to abnormal blood clots. Symptoms of varicose veins include a feeling of numbness, fatigue, swollen veins, Krishnarakta Sira (a blue discolouration in the veins and skin), and persistent discomfort in the lower legs.
The objectives of treating varicose veins include
- Repairing damaged veins to restore proper valve function for effective blood flow to the heart, addressing any harm caused by malfunctioning veins such as muscle weakness and loss of sensation
- Using external therapies in combination with blood-thinning medication to enhance blood circulation, and employing blood purification techniques and medication to detoxify the blood affected by the malfunctioning valve.
- Improving metabolism to facilitate faster blood purification, lowering cholesterol levels to promote better cardiac function and assisting in opening clots that have formed due to valve failure.
- Collateral circulation, which refers to circulation in the nerves and veins surrounding the affected area, will be improved.
